1:1 SEND Support for Communication, Language and Learning Access
Individualised, story-led support for children who benefit from a different approach
Read, Play, Create offers 1:1 support for pupils who are finding it difficult to access learning due to communication, language or engagement barriers.
Using a story-led, sensory approach, sessions are designed to build confidence, develop communication and support children in connecting with learning in a way that feels achievable.
Who is this support for?
This support is particularly effective for pupils who are not thriving with traditional interventions.
This intervention is suitable for pupils who:

have identified SEND or emerging needs

have EHCPs or are on SEND Support

experience speech, language or communication needs

struggle with attention, regulation or engagement

lack confidence with reading, writing or classroom learning
Support is particularly effective for children who respond well to hands-on, sensory and story-based learning.
What sessions focus on
Each 1:1 programme is designed to build the core communication and learning behaviours needed to engage in the classroom.
Each 1:1 programme is personalised and may support:

early communication and expressive language

listening and attention skills

vocabulary development

confidence with early writing and mark-making

emotional regulation through predictable, purposeful routines
Sessions are shaped around the child’s interests, needs and targets, allowing progress to happen at the child’s pace.
How sessions are delivered

Delivered 1:1 within the school setting

Sessions are practical, play-based and low pressure, designed to reduce overwhelm and increase engagement.

Sensory resources are used intentionally to support learning, not distract from it

Links can be made to EHCP outcomes or individual targets where appropriate
Where possible, strategies can be shared with staff to support consistency beyond the session.
