The RPC Purposeful Provision Review

A practical, supportive review of how learning, language, provision and adult interaction work together across EYFS.

A fresh pair of experienced eyes on what is working, what could be strengthened and what matters most next.

Not an inspection. Not a checklist of perfect provision.

What is the Purposeful Provision Review?

When provision is busy, it can be difficult to see what is really making the difference.

The Purposeful Provision Review gives you time to look closely at how your EYFS provision is supporting the learning you want to see.

Using the RPC Purposeful Provision Framework, we explore the relationship between:

Purpose · Language · Provision · Interaction · Notice · Next

The review is designed to help you recognise what is already working, identify where there may be gaps or missed opportunities and decide what needs to happen next.

The focus is always on practical improvement — not adding more for the sake of it.

Looking Beyond The Activity

During the review, I look at how the different parts of your EYFS practice work together.

Purpose

Is it clear what children are meant to be learning?

Interaction

How are adults extending learning through talk, modelling and interaction?

Language

What language sits underneath the learning, and how is it being developed?

Notice

What are practitioners noticing about what children can do and understand?

Provision

Does the environment give children meaningful opportunities to explore and practise?

Next

How is what you notice shaping what happens next?

What The Review Will Feel Like?

Supportive, practical and rooted in your setting.

Every setting is different, so the review is not about comparing your environment with an idealised classroom or giving you a list of things you “should” have.

I spend time understanding your context, your priorities and what you are already trying to achieve.

We then look at what is working well, where practice could be strengthened and which changes are likely to make the greatest difference.

You will leave with a clearer sense of direction — not an overwhelming list of jobs.

A fresh pair of experienced eyes on what is working, what could be strengthened and what matters most next.

A clear process from enquiry to next steps

Before Your Review

You’ll complete a short pre-review questionnaire and share any relevant planning, progression or curriculum information. There is no need to prepare anything specially.

During Your Review

I spend time observing provision, looking at how adults and children are using the environment and discussing what you are currently working on with leaders and practitioners.

After The Review

You receive clear feedback, your identified strengths and priorities, and a written summary with practical next steps.

For Full Review settings, this also includes bespoke team development and a 30 / 60 / 90-day action plan.

Who is this review for?

This review could be useful if…

  • Your team has strong provision but wants to sharpen its purpose.

  • You feel provision has become activity-led rather than learning-led.

  • There is lots happening in the environment, but you are unsure how much learning is actually being extended.

  • You want to strengthen language and adult interaction.

  • You are reviewing progression or curriculum intent.

  • You are an EYFS leader who would value an experienced outside perspective.

  • You know something needs strengthening but are not quite sure where to start.

Bespoke Team Development

Development shaped by what your team actually needs.

The team development included within the Full Review is not a generic training package.

It is shaped by what we see during the review and the priorities that emerge from your setting.

This might include areas such as:

  • From activity-led to learning-led provision

  • Language through purposeful provision

  • The adult role in play

  • Story-led learning with a clear purpose

  • Progression without overcomplication

  • Oracy before writing

Follow-up Support

Keep the momentum going

Settings can also add follow-up support after the review.

Online follow-up — £95
A 45–60 minute session to review progress, talk through challenges and agree next steps.

On-site follow-up — £225
Approximately 90 minutes in your setting to revisit priorities, see what has changed and refine the next stage of the plan.

About The Approach

The story is the vehicle. The learning is the purpose.

The RPC approach starts with what children need to learn, rather than with the activity we want to create.

That means asking clearer questions about the purpose of provision, the language children need, the role of the adult and what we are looking for as evidence of learning.

Sometimes the answer is to change the provision.

Sometimes it is to change the language adults use.

Sometimes children simply need more time, repetition or opportunities to practise.

Good provision isn’t about doing more.

It’s about making what we do more purposeful.
